Parents Cautioned Over Accidental Medication Poisonings In Children

Posted Thursday, March 21st 2013 @ 3pm

Parents are being reminded of the danger from prescription medications in the hands of children.  A newly released report from Safe Kids Worldwide says over 67,000 children are taken to hospital emergency rooms for treatment of accidental medication exposures each year.  That figure is up 30% over the past decade.

In some cases children are getting into vitamins and aspirins designed for them but 86-percent of those cases involve youngsters taking adult medicines left on a counter, in a purse or even on the floor.  Health experts are asking parents and those who care for children to be very aware and place medicines out of reach and in childproof containers.
