EXETER, Calif. (AP) — Officials in a small Central California town say a police sergeant has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor who was a member of the department's youth Explorer program.
The Exeter Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday that 46-year-old Patrol Sgt. Jeff Detwiler was an adviser in the Explorer program in the small town 10 miles east of Visalia.
Detwiler was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, witness intimidation and possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators say the female victim was 17 when the crime occurred.
Detwiler, who has 10 years on the force, is being held on $75,000 bail.
