ORANGE (CNS) - Adjacent houses in an upscale Orange neighborhood were hit in home-invasion robberies, with one person cut or stabbed in a hand in one residence and three family members tied up in the other, one of the victims said today.
The robberies began around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Calle Grande and lasted about three hours, a woman who lives in one of the houses said in a telephone interview.
The woman said her husband was asleep in a back room and she was upstairs when she was grabbed by one of several masked men who took her to the back of the house and tied her and her husband up with what looked like a television cable. The robbers told the couple to lie face down on a bed, then they ransacked the home.
When the couple's 22-year-old daughter came home about an hour later, they heard her scream and she was soon made to join her parents on the bed, the woman said.
While one suspect guarded them, two others went to the house next door, she said.
A male in the second house has his hand stabbed or cut by one of the suspects, an Orange Fire Department captain told a news photographer at the scene.
After about three hours, the woman tied up with her husband and daughter surmised that the robbers were gone and the husband, 59, led his wife, 60, and daughter out of the home through a bathroom window, the woman said.
Police responded to the scene when the neighbor's burglar alarm sounded, she said.
Orange police did not immediately comment on the robberies.
