LOS ANGELES (AP) — A person of interest in a series of shootings that killed three people and injured four others is being held on suspicion of animal cruelty for shooting two dogs.

LAPD spokesman Bruce Borihanh said Monday that 34-year-old Alexander Hernandez is being held on $1 million bail and detectives are trying to link him to the homicides.

Hernandez has not been charged in Sunday's killings of two women and a man in the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles.

Borihanh says there are no other suspects and there is no threat to the community.

The dogs were killed Saturday.

Borihanh says the person who shot the dogs drove a vehicle similar to the one seen at two of the three homicide scenes on Sunday and the type of weapon used was similar.
