GOP House Speaker John Boehner is challenging Democrats to come up with a workable plan to avert looming budget cuts. In his weekly news conference, Boehner said he never liked the so-called sequester of deep, automatic spending cuts.
He said the Republican-led House has twice passed alternatives to replace the sequester. The Democratic-led Senate did not follow suit. Without congressional action, the across-the-board cuts are set to trigger on March 1st. The sequester is rooted in the bipartisan debt ceiling negotiations of 2011.
