Last call could go much later if one lawmaker gets his proposed legislation passed. Bartenders are required to start sending people home at 2 a.m. across the state right now, but a bill proposed by state Sen. Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco, would allow municipalities in California to set their own last call times.
Communities could decide to set their last call for as late as 4 a.m. the Los Angeles Times reports.
This isn’t the first time lawmakers have tried to extend your night out. Former Sen. Mark Leno proposed a similar bill in 2013, but it failed to gain enough support to move it out of committee.
California isn't the only state flirting with the idea to allow people to drink later. Minnesota also has a measure on the table that would extend closing times. However, they may have a better excuse. Minnesota's proposal came up as a possible temporary measure for the 2018 Superbowl weekend which is scheduled to be played at U.S. Bank Stadium.
