POMONA, Calif. (AP) — Police say an 8-year-old boy at a gathering with family and friends was killed in a drive-by shooting at a home in Pomona.
Officials say the child was inside Monday evening when at least three bullets struck the residence. He was hit in the head and pronounced dead at a hospital. The suspect vehicle sped away from the scene.
Lt. Eddie Vazquez says detectives are trying to determine if the killing is connected to a shooting at the residence last month. He says in that incident nobody was home when someone opened fire on the house.
Investigators say nobody in the family has gang ties and it's a mystery why the home was targeted.
Police have not released a suspect description.
