Son of famous mariachi singer busted for people smuggling

(U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

Two weeks ago a man was busted at the California-Mexico border for trying to smuggle four Chinese illegal immigrants in the trunk of his car.

The man responsible is Jose Emiliano Aguilar, son of famous mariachi singer Pepe Aguilar. The lawyer representing Aguilar says the case has nothing to do with the famous singer.

The migrants reportedly agreed to pay Aguilar between $3,000 and $60,000 to be smuggled into the United States. That's a huge pay gap! They had to have decided on $60,000. Nobody in their right mind would smuggle four illegal immigrants in their car for $3,000.

Aguilar, who is a U.S. citizen, was released on bail pending his arraignment.

Regardless if he's found guilty or innocent, Pepe Aguilar says he's be there for his 24-year-old son:

"As you all may know, my son is going through some difficult legal issues … I want to be very clear about mine and my family's posture. We are 100% in solidarity with Emiliano. Everyone makes mistakes. I’m not hiding anything, I don’t know anything and I didn’t do anything which is why I will not say anything else about this. It’s a very difficult situation. My son is a U.S. citizen and will be tried in a U.S. court where he will be found guilty or innocent. As a father, I will be there supporting him unconditionally. I believe in my son, and he is not a delinquent."
