The founders of the website How I Met My Dog are trying to change how people select their family dogs. They say that people usually pick out a pet based on appearance and breed.
How I Met My Dog is being called the eHarmony of pets because it matches people and pups based on a personality profile based on their lifestyle.
Their hope is that pets and people will have a better long-term relationship instead of the owners having an incompatible match with their dog's activity and energy levels.
So many times people choose dogs based on their looks and they are not prepared for their energy levels or somewhat annoying tendencies. This way pet owners can either choose a dog based on personality or be fully informed about what they're signing up for.
Their website is only operating in Boston right now but they hope to go national soon.
