Teen threatens mom with handgun and says "wanted to shoot something and be on the news"

Police responded after a mother in La Habra reported that her son was armed with a handgun and was threatening to shoot her.

The sixteen-year-old fled the scene with the weapon and stated "that he wanted to shoot something and be on the news," before police arrived.

Officers patrolled the surrounding areas and found the teen at Guadalupe Park. When officials attempted to communicate with the teen a shooting occurred and he was injured by officers.

He fled the scene again and was tracked down again. The handgun was also found nearby.

No officers were injured but the teen was taken into custody for attempted homicide, criminal threats and brandishing a firearm, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment but his condition is unknown at this time.
