City Sues to Stop Fake & Dangerous Drug Sales

The operators of a drug and snack store in Pacoima who already faced criminal charges were sued by the City of Los Angeles, a civil action aimed at closing the storefront after years of complaints and investigations.

"The remedies that we're seeking include the termination of the lease at this location, an injunction that would prohibit the defendants from continuing to, what we allege, to illegally sell pharmaceutical products," L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer told reporters.

Undercover investigators said they found Ducleria El Vanado at 11653 N. Glenoaks Blvd. had been selling bogus prescription medications and controlled drugs, like opiates, benzodiazepines, and steroids, to people without prescriptions.

The store owners, Nacisco and Johana Gamez, have each previously faced separate criminal prosecutions, and the civil case was designed to stop the father and daughter from doing business at the Glenoaks location any longer.
