Off Duty Border Patrol Agent Kidnapped and Assaulted

An off-duty New Mexico border patrol agent was found with major injuries on the side of the road.

The US Customs and Border Protection released a statement about the events in Doña Ana County.

"The agent suffered multiple, serious injuries to his head, chest and hands. Emergency Medical Services transported the agent to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for his wounds. The agent is in stable condition."

The release didn't mention exactly where the agent was found, or the details of his injuries.

However, Las Cruces Sun-News newspaper photographer Robin Zielinski reports the agent was mutilated.

Breitbart Texas editor-in-chief Brandon Darby was the first to report the assault and says he obtained documents saying the agent was kidnapped in addition to the assault.

Darby also reports the FBI in El Paso, Texas is leading the investigation.

The CBP says they are working with the FBI, the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office and the El Paso Police Department.

"CBP has informed its workforce of this report and has reminded its law enforcement personnel to be alert and aware of their surroundings and potential threats related to their service."
