Governor Jerry Brown is Getting a Pay Raise

California governor Jerry Brown and other state politicians will receive a 3 percent pay raise beginning in December.

The raises were approved yesterday by the California Citizens Compensation Commission; this raise is the fifth they've received in recent years.

Brown's salary will rise from the paltry $190,102 to $195,805 and other lawmakers will go from $104,117 to $107,240.

The raises come as California is facing economic and budget recovery after there was originally a measure passed to restrict raises during years of state budget deficits.

In addition to the salaries, lawmakers will also receive tax-free payments for everyday the Legislature is in session, but those within a short commute of the Capitol won't get the extra payments.
