The US Military May Have a New Branch...in Space

America has troops in 177 countries all over the world, and Congress is looking to send them some where far, far away.

Space....yeah, seriously.

A proposal being sent to the Senate is asking for the Air Force current space missions to be given to a brand new branch with its sole focus being on space.

Alabama Representative Mike Rogers says creating the new branch is necessary for US national security, because other countries are catching up to America’s power in space.

“Russia and China have become near peers. They're close to surpassing us. What we're proposing would change that.”

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson says the branch isn't into the idea.

“The Pentagon is complicated enough. This will make it more complex, add more boxes to the organization chart.”

If the new Space Corps branch is created it would be the first time since 1947 a military branch was created.
