LA has a safe place to talk race. Over the course of 5 days, City Council President Herb Wesson says two thousand people will have dinner next week to chat about sensitive racial issues.
"Different generations, different religions, sexual practices, different ethnic groups."
Weston says a wide range of sensitive racial issues will be discussed. Councilman Mitchell Englander says breaking bread together might help people see how similar we all are.
"The same desires and dreams and aspirations - we all care about our families and our community."
People were chosen by lottery for the free dinners. The meals will be hosted all over the city as part of the embRACE L-A Initiative.
"We all have to live together and we need to figure out a way to do that. So hopefully what er can do is ignite a national conversation on race," said Wesson.
The dinners will start next week at homes, businesses, and restaurants all over Los Angeles.
