Reports surfaced last week that some British Schools have started to replace analog clocks with digital.
The reason?
Sigh. Students are struggling to read them.
The UK-based Association of School and College Leader Union's deputy general secretary Mark Trobe attempted to justify:
“They are used to seeing a digital representation of time on their phone, on their computer. Nearly everything they’ve got is digital so youngsters are just exposed to time being given digitally everywhere.”
Sitting down with the Telegraph, Trobe emphasized the core issue is that teachers are concerned with students' stress levels. This is particularly of concern during exams, he continued:
“You don’t want them to put their hand up to ask how much time is left.”
Head of English at Ruislip High in London, Stephanie Keeman confirmed on Twitter that the school had replaced the exam hall's analog clocks with digital.
