Music Festivals Contribute To Rise In Illegal Use Of Disability Placards

music festivals contribute to rise in disability placard abuse

The illegal use of disabled person parking placards across California is on the rise.

DMV Spokesman Jaime Garza said last month's citations were more than double the 167 who were cited in March.  Enforcement operations during the Stagecoach and Coachella Music Festivals in Indio both resulted in more than 250 people being cited.

Since the beginning of the fiscal year last July, the DMV has issued more than 2,200 citations during 213 crackdown efforts across the Golden State.  Offenders must appear in court and pay a fine up to $1,000.
