When a Bluffton, South Carolina woman was pulled over after running a four-way stop at 60 mph, police probably didn't expect her excuse as to why she shouldn't go to jail.
According to a police report, Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw tried convincing officers she shouldn't be arrested for DUI and speeding because she was a "very clean, thoroughbred, white girl."
Unfortunately for Cutshaw, Bluffton police didn't buy her reasoning and arrested her on multiple offenses anyway including; speeding, disregarding a stop sign, simple possession of marijuana, driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia according to the New York Post.
The police report says cops spotted Cutshaw speeding through a four-way stop sign, and when they pulled her over, they noted that "her eyes were bloodshot and glossy, she was slurring her words, and there was a smell of alcohol coming from the car."
Cutshaw claims that she had drunk two glasses of wine earlier that evening after celebrating her birthday.
Cutshaw, who turns 33 on Thursday, gave cops a series of rhetorical arguments on why she felt like she deserved to be let off the hook. Some of her rationalizations included:
- The fact that she had maintained perfect grades while at school
- She had been a cheerleader
- She had been a member of a national sorority
- She graduated from a "high accredited university"
- She was in the National Honors Society
- She was dating a police officer
She also told officers they shouldn't arrest her because "“I’m a white, clean girl,” Cutshaw said, according to the police report.
When officers asked her to clarify what she meant by that, Cutshaw reportedly told them, “You’re a cop, you should know what that means.”
Officers wrote in the report that they were taken aback by the woman's comments.
“Making statements such as these as a means to justify not being arrested are unusual in my experience as a law enforcement officer and I believe further demonstrate the suspect’s level of intoxication,” according to the report.
The police report also noted that Cutshaw had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, and had failed multiple sobriety tests. Officers said she had bloodshot eyes and was slurring her words while interacting with officer.
Cutshaw was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center and released as of Tuesday morning according to online jail records.
