Pedestrian Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash Near Downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A pedestrian was killed today in a hit-and-run crash near downtown Los Angeles, police said.

The victim -- identified by coroner's officials as 78-year-old Byung Yu -- died at the scene of his injury, which was reported about 5:20 a.m. at Third Street and Union Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Family members told reporters at the scene that he was the father of a son and had two grandchildren. The hit-and-run vehicle was described only as a possibly tan or silver, older-model SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Trailblazer, according to Sgt. Ares Isai of the LAPD's Central Traffic Division.

Some grainy video was recovered from an MTA bus and investigators were working to get video from surrounding businesses, Isai said.
