The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today proclaimed September as National Preparedness Month to help encourage residents and businesses across the Southland to take steps to prepare for a major disaster like an earthquake.
Supervisor Hilda Solis said last year's devastating wildfires and a recent 4.4 magnitude earthquakethat struck near La Verne in August should remind Angelenos of how important it is to be prepared to help themselves should a disaster strike the Los Angeles area.
“I encourage all Los Angeles County residents and businesses to learn and practice the four key steps of preparedness: make a plan, keep supplies, stay informed and get involved. It is important to master these four preparedness steps so that you are empowered to help yourself, your family and your community before first responders arrive,” she said.

The county will also host a series of events designed to help educate and train residents on how to prepare for natural disasters. The campaign, "Disasters Happen. Prepare Now. Learn How" is being held
