According to reports from the New York Times, the White House is now allowing the FBI to extend their investigation into President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Jude Brett Kavanaugh.
Originally, the White House was said to have only allowed the FBI a limited list of witnesses to interview. Now, President Trump says they are authorizing the FBI to interview anyone "appropriate," as long as it's completed within the week.
"I think the FBI should do what they have to do to get to the answer," Trump told reporters during a press conference Monday.
"Now with that being said, I’d like it go quickly," Trump said. "And the reason I'd like it to go quickly — very simple, so simple — because it’s unfair to [Kavanaugh] at this point."
The FBI will investigate the sexual assault allegations against Judge Kavanaugh beginning this week. Kavanaugh has denied all allegations. The FBI said they have already spoken with four of the people from the original list of witness provided by the White House.
"I’m guided by the Senate," Trump said. "I want to make the Senate happy, because ultimately they’re making the judgment. I’m not making the judgment."
"Certainly if they find something, I’m going to take that into consideration," he added. "I have a very open mind. The person that takes that position is going to be there a very long time."
