GOP Senators Show Support for Kavanaugh After FBI Report

Republican Senators Jeff Flake of Arizona and Susan Collins of Maine both expressed they were pleased with the outcome of the FBI's updated background check of Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

As everyone probably knows by now, Kavanaugh is being accused by three separate women of sexual assault, which occurred back in the 1980s. His second and third accusers did not come forward until the first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford made her case.

Kavanaugh has continued to deny the allegations.

In regards to the new allegations Flake said, “We’ve seen no additional corroborating information.”

Collins countered the Democrat claims that the FBI check was a 'rush job micromanaged by the White House,' and said, "it appears to be a very thorough investigation.”

Flake, Collins, and Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski are all key GOP votes in the almost equally divided senate. Republicans hold a 51-49 majority and assuming all Democrats vote no on Kavanaugh's confirmation, they cannot stand to lose any votes.

None of the Senators have definitively said how they would vote.

According to Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate will vote to close debate on the nomination on Friday and the full Senate will vote during the weekend.
