Suspect Sought for Unprovoked Attack on Bus Rider in Montebello

MONTEBELLO (CNS) - Police in Montebello asked for the public's help this morning in identifying the suspect who sucker-punched a 50-year-old man after he exited a city bus last month.

The victim had just stepped off the bus near the intersection of Fourth Street and Whittier Boulevard around 8:20 p.m. on March 12 when the suspect followed him off the bus and punched him in the head, then kicked the victim three more times while he laid unconscious on the ground, according to a statement from the Montebello Police Department.

The suspect did not attempt to rob the victim and was last seen walking east on Whittier Boulevard and out of sight, the statement said.

The suspect appears to be in his mid- to late-20s with a medium build and a goatee. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue khaki pants and carrying a black backpack, police said.

Anyone with information on this attack was asked to call Montebello police Detective Antista at 323-887-1200, ext. 249.
