Natural Gas Line Ruptured by Workers in Reseda Area; Some Homes Evacuated

RESEDA (CNS) - Workers ruptured an underground natural gas line in the Reseda area today, and about 25 homes were ordered evacuated as a precaution while utility crews worked to handle the problem.

The break was reported shortly after 10 a.m. in the 17700 block of West Saticoy Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

Southern California Gas Co. crews were sent to the scene.

LAFD Capt. Erik Scott said about 25 homes were evacuated from the immediate area, and other neighborhood residents were advised to “shelter in place” but keep their windows closed.

Workers using a backhoe ruptured the underground line, according to reports from the scene.
