LYNWOOD (CNS) - An off-duty security guard who had been sleeping in his car in Lynwood shot three men, one fatally, when one or more of them allegedly tried to break into his vehicle early this morning.

Detectives went to the 10900 block of Long Beach Boulevard about 4:45 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

One man died at the scene, and the other two were taken to a hospital. The fatally wounded man's name was withheld, pending family notification. The conditions of the other two men were not immediately known.

The security guard was sleeping in his vehicle when one or more suspects tried to break into it, the sheriff's department reported.

“The security guard's vehicle windows were extremely tinted,” sheriff's Lt. Scott Hoglund told reporters at the scene. “It is unknown at this time if the suspects knew that the victim was inside the car at that time or not.”

The guard was interviewed by authorities. His name was not released.

“At this point, it does appear he was a victim,” Hoglund said. “He was just sleeping in his car when these individuals tried to break into his vehicle.”
