LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A felony suspect who reportedly was under surveillance was arrested today after leading police on a pursuit in a Mercedes- Benz sedan that went from the Burbank area to the Sherman Oaks Galleria, where he drove into a parking structure and remained at large for a time.
Los Angeles police officers began chasing the suspect about 9:30 a.m. near Glenoaks Boulevard and Cabrini Drive, according to the LAPD.
The suspect was wanted for a felony, possibly connected to a burglary investigation, and was being tracked by undercover officers, according to police and broadcast reports.
Officers in patrol vehicles, monitored by a police helicopter crew, followed the suspect on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, then on the southbound 5 Freeway, surface streets in the Granada Hills, Northridge and Encino areas, and the Ventura (101) Freeway in the Sherman Oaks area.
The suspect reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour during the chase, prompting officers to fall back and rely on air units, KTLA reported.
About 10:25 a.m., the suspect drove onto the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, then onto surface streets in the Sherman Oaks area. About 10:45 a.m., the suspect drove into a parking garage at the Sherman Oaks Galleria.
Police set up a perimeter in the area and looked for the suspect, who apparently eluded them at that location. Early in the afternoon, police reported that the man had been taken into custody by detectives. His name and the circumstances of his arrest were not immediately made known.
