New Today: Orange County Relaxes Face Mask Orders

Tired of wearing your face mask everywhere you go? Well, if you're in Orange County, we have some good news for you...

As of Thursday afternoon, Orange County officials announced that face coverings will be recommended, but no longer required to wear while out in public.

This rule change comes just a few days after Dr. Nichole Quick resigned as public health officer after receiving threats for her O.C. face mask mandate. Orange County Health Care Agency Director Dr. Clayton Chau is currently serving as the interim public health officer.

Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett also noted that the face mask order is still "strongly recommended," but making it no longer a "requirement" could help ease tensions within the community.

“I want to keep that in effect, not only to protect the public, but the workers,” Bartlett said. “There are certain businesses where you can’t do the six feet of social distancing.”

The county is also expected to cut back on more coronavirus restrictions on Friday as California heads into Stage 3 of reopening.
