LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Grammy winning singer Helen Reddy died Tuesday in Los Angeles, her children announced. She was 78.
Reddy received the best female pop vocal performance Grammy in 1973 for her best-known song, “I Am Woman.''
Reddy was born Oct. 25, 1941 in Melbourne, Australia into a well-known Australian show business family. She began performing professionally as a child.
Reddy's other hits included “Leave Me Alone," “Angie Baby" and “Delta Dawn."
Reddy also starred in the 1977 Disney live-action/animated musical fantasy comedy film “Pete's Dragon.''
Reddy received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1974.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy, on the afternoon of September 29th 2020 in Los Angeles,'' her daughter Traci and son Jordan wrote on Facebook.
“She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.''
