Fred Roggin from Roggin & Rodney on our sister station AM570 LA Sports and NBC4 Los Angeles came on the program to discuss the Dodgers being one game away from winning the World Series with Shannon and Kris Ankarlo, who is filling in for Gary.
The Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 last night in Game 5 of the World Series to take a 3-2 advantage in the series.
Clayton Kershaw pitched 5.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs but had 6 strikeouts and moved into first place on the postseason all-time strikeouts list with 207 strikeouts, passing Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander.
The Dodgers took an early 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning thanks to a double from Corey Seager to score Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger bringing Seager home on a single. And in case you forgot, Joc Pederson reminded everyone it is still "Joctober" with a home run in the top of the 2nd inning.
The Rays scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning courtesy of a RBI triple from Yandy Díaz and a RBI single from Randy Arozarena. There was a very close play at the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning when Manuel unsuccessfully tried to steal home as an attempt to shift the momentum in Tampa Bay's favor but Clayton Kershaw was able to throw him out in time. The play was reviewed but ultimately the call on the field was confirmed and Margot was out to end the inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the 5th inning Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy came to the plate and hit a 434ft moonshot of a home run to give the Dodgers a 4-2 advantage.
Dustin May and Victor Gonzalez were solid in relief appearances for the boys in blue and Blake Treinen got the save after giving up a leadoff single to Margot. Treinen was very animated after he struck out Rays shortstop Willy Adames for the final out of the game and who wouldn't be?!
