LA Galaxy Clean House; Fire Head Coach, 4 Assistants

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Languishing at the bottom of Major League Soccer's Western Conference, the LA Galaxy today fired the bulk of the team's coaching staff, including head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto.

Also fired were assistant coach Gustavo Barros Schelotto, assistant coach Ariel Pereyra, goalkeeping coach Juan Jose Romero and performance coach Javier Valdecantos.

Assistant coach Dominic Kinnear will take over the head coaching duties for the remainder of the season, according to the team.

“Based on results, we have decided to go in a different direction,'' Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese said in a statement. “The LA Galaxy is a club that is built on winning on the field and being representative of the championship mentality and pedigree that you expect in Los Angeles. As a club, we have a collective responsibility and we all must share the blame for the club's current standing.

“I take responsibility for the poor results and believe that we can find the right way forward for this team and our club,'' he said.

The Galaxy are in last place in the MLS Western Conference, with a 5-11-3 record.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who became the Galaxy head coach in January 2019, compiled a 21-26-6 record during his tenure with the team.

There are only three games remaining in the Galaxy's current season.
