Inglewood Mayor Expected Back at Work After `Cardiac Event'

INGLEWOOD (CNS) - Mayor James T. Butts Jr. plans to return to work today following a “cardiac event'' earlier this week that required emergency surgery and days of hospitalization, it was reported.

The Daily Breeze, quoting City Manager Artie Fields, reported Thursday that Butts, 67, experienced the cardiac event on Monday at about 5:30 p.m. while in his office at City Hall.

“He was transported to UCLA Medical Center by L.A. County paramedics, where he underwent an emergency medical procedure that was successful,'' Fields said -- adding that Butts was released from the hospital on Thursday at 3 p.m.

“His condition is good,'' Fields said. “The mayor and council want to thank everyone for their well wishes.''

Butts plans to return to work Friday, Fields told the newspaper.
