San Francisco Zoo Announces Death of the Oldest Male Chimpanzee in U.S.

A beloved favorite at the San Francisco Zoo, a 63-year-old chimpanzee named Cobby, has died.

Cobby was the oldest male chimp in the United States and zoo officials say he had recently been ill.

Cobby was brought to the San Francisco Zoo in the mid-1960s.

He was described by zoo staff as a "gentle soul" and they say his passing is a "devastating loss."
