LONG BEACH (CNS) - A Long Beach man allegedly driving while impaired was in custody today and facing a possible vehicular manslaughter charge in connection with a crash that left another motorist dead, police said.

The collision was reported at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday on Willow Street just west of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Bryan Grayley, 66, was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI, and was being held on $100,000 bail, police said.

According to police, Grayley was driving a 2017 Subaru Outback that rear-ended a 1995 GMC Yukon, which went off the side of Willow Street and into the Coyote Creek flood control channel.

Officers sent to the scene found the Subaru in the eastbound lanes of Willow Street and the Yukon overturned in the channel.

Paramedics took both motorists to a hospital. The 53-year-old Compton man driving the Yukon died. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

``The preliminary investigation revealed both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Willow Street at a high rate of speed when the Subaru Outback struck the GMC Yukon from behind, causing the Yukon to leave the roadway and land upside down in the flood control channel below the roadway,'' police said in a statement.

Anyone with information on the accident was urged to call Detective Kevin Johansen at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
