PARAMOUNT (CNS) - A person was shot and killed by California Highway Patrol officers on the westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway in Paramount today.

CHP units were called to the freeway near Garfield Avenue at about 11:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian in the roadway, a CHP officer told reporters at the scene. Officers discovered the person apparently injured on the freeway and ``went to check on the welfare of the downed pedestrian'' when the shooting occurred, but no further details on what led up the shooting were available, according to the CHP. No officers were injured.

Los Angeles County fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and took the person to St. Francis Medical Center, where the shooting victim died. The person's identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin. Authorities closed the westbound 105 Freeway, along with the Garfield Avenue on-ramp to the westbound freeway, for hours Wednesday afternoon while an investigation was conducted.
