Major Tech Companies May Introduce Passwordless Sign-In Option

Apple, Google and Microsoft have announced plans to support passwordless sign-ins for its devices.

The companies say a new, faster and more secure sign in method is expected in the coming year that would utilize your smartphone.

According to Google, your phone would store a passkey to unlock your accounts.

"To sign into a website on your computer, you’ll just need your phone nearby and you’ll simply be prompted to unlock it for access. Once you’ve done this, you won’t need your phone again and you can sign in by just unlocking your computer."

The move is to combat easily compromised or forgotten passwords.

Besides the passkey, other sign-in options growing in popularity across different devices are a PIN, fingerprint scan or a version of Face ID.
