LOS ANGELES (CNS) - One of two people killed in a high-speed traffic crash in the Jefferson Park area was identified Friday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner's office identified one victim as Oscar Santos Farela, 26.

Officers responded to West 29th Street and Arlington Avenue around 11:50 a.m. Thursday and found a collision involving a black BMW, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"A black BMW reportedly ran a red light at 29th Street while traveling southbound on Arlington Avenue and collided with several parked vehicles," police said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

Police said one person got out of the BMW and attempted to run from the area but was taken into custody a short time later.

Authorities told reporters at the scene that one of the victims was a woman who was ejected onto the street when the BMW, which was traveling at speeds approaching 100 mph, struck a UPS truck and various other vehicles. That woman, who has not been identified, died at the scene. The other victim was in the back seat of the BMW, police said.

According to police, the driver of the BMW fled several blocks to the area of Third Avenue and Jeffeerson Boulevard but was chased down by witnesses and held until officers arrived. The driver's name has not been released.
