"The media only works if you have electricity. They need to turn on the television. So that's stupid."
Those are the words of LA County Supervisor Mike Antonovich during Tuesday's meeting with So Cal Edison officials about the power outage caused by the windstorm. He was addressing Edison's Veronica Gutierrez, who told supes the utility uses the media to get the word out about the outage and let customers know how repairs are coming along.
So Antonovich says "The media only works if you have electricity. They need to turn on the television." Really, Mike? Did you forget about radio? Did you not read LA County's Emergency Survival Guide? On page 37 it lists "10 Essential Emergency Supplies." Nowhere is television listed. Yet radio is on the list, accompanied by "(and extra batteries.)" Electricity not required.
Radio's the only item listed in the SURVIVAL GUIDE that can actually provide people affected by an emergency or disaster with the information they need to survive or endure.
Television's not there. Newspaper's not there. The Internet's not there.
Radio, stupid.
I'm all registered for the 2012 LA Marathon. It'll be Sunday March 18th. Thanks to KFI and the folks here at Clear Channel for sponsoring me and a few other on-air people. I haven't run a marathon since 2009, the year the race was changed to Memorial Day weekend -- and before the course was changed to "Stadium to the Sea." I'm excited to run in March AND on a new course. In '09 I set a personal record (PR) of 4:39:30. My time in the Miami Marathon in 2007 was a little slower. So my goal is just to improve on my PR, hopefully break 4:30, maybe even break 4:00.
I run in Saucony Grid Omni's. Can't remember which model. I usually get my gear at Road Runner. Their clearance rack is fantastic. Sometimes I run with music, but also enjoy going without. I have songs from artists ranging from Johnny Cash to Daft Punk, Wolfmother to Rage Against the Machine. I also don't always run with a watch. I just go by feel.
Saw this on uber producer Tim Cates Twitter, which he grabbed from a Denver radio producer's Twitter. Yep ... social networking in action. Oh, and as a Broncos fan I love this.

This guy's on Conan tonight, so I thought I'd find video of him BASE jumping.
GOOD LORD THIS GUY IS CRAZY! And AWESOME!
This pic of Hugh Hefner planking isn't going to do much to stop weekly rumors he's dead. One of his Bunnies posted this on her Twitter @AnnaSophiaB.

Last weekend I did something I've thought about doing for a long time: Habitat For Humanity. My wife's company put it together for a build in Piru.
I've never planked before. So when David popped into the news booth and suggested we plank in the newsroom, I was all for it!!
