Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry's attempt to smear California's reputation with an advertisement criticizing the state's business industry backfired Monday, when California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) called the ad "barely a fart."

"It's not a serious story, guys," he said at a business event, according to the Sacramento Bee. "It's not a burp. It's barely a fart."

Perry's ad said success in the West Coast state is impossible and encouraged Californians to "come to Texas."

But Brown's not worried.

"A $26,000 radio buy is the smallest entry into the media market of California," Brown said. "Everybody's coming [to California]. The Brits are here, trying to figure out how to cooperate and be a part of our media, Internet, digital. Look, when you've got something good, people want to be here."
