A pall was cast over Loma Linda University Medical Center, where one Sheriff’s deputy died and another underwent surgery after a shootout Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a man thought to be murder fugitive Christopher Dorner.
Jodi Miller, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, acknowledged in the late afternoon that emotions were running high at the Level 1 Trauma Center.
One colleague was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:24 p.m., she said. Another was in surgery, but was expected to live.
San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon, in a 10-minute press briefing outside the emergency room entrance, confirmed the two were struck in a “brief exchange of gunfire” after responding to a report Dorner had crashed a stolen vehicle, and chased the wanted gunman into a forest.
“No other information is being released about the deputies at this time,’’ Miller said with pain-filled eyes. Read more at The Press Enterprise
