The procession to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Detective Jeremiah MacKay’s funeral at San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore is expected to hit San Bernardino area freeways starting about 8 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, sheriff’s officials said.

Procession participants have been gathering at Mt. View Mortuary and Cemetery in San Bernardino this morning. The mass of law enforcement and firefighters has Highland and Waterman avenuesblocked. Officers are wearing black bands over their badges.

Amanda Mancha, of San Bernardino, was one of the few civilians at the scene. She came to watch the procession with her grandson Charles.

"It's history. You never see the death of a police officer," Mancha said. "It's heartwarming to see the community come together like this."
