Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) began a task force to investigate “fence” burglaries. A fence is an individual who knowingly buys stolen property for later resale, sometimes in a legitimate market.
The task force engaged in extensive surveillance and investigative efforts which culminated with the arrest of numerous suspected burglars and the service of multiple search and arrest warrants at several locations of suspected “fencing” operations, resulting in the potential recovery of burglary victims’ property. The search warrants resulted in the booking of over 11,000 items of evidence.
