From WXYZ.com:

Ruffles, bows, and lace.

It’s the stuff of prom dresses of old (even some sweet bridesmaids’ dresses).  But those old gems don’t have to junk up your closet forever.

More women are dusting them off for a girls’ night out…for a good cause.

These charitable parties are called Mom Proms.

“They’re for all women, not just Moms,” said Mom Prom founder Betsy Crapps.  “We dance all night, and every Mom Prom chooses a different charity.”

She started the first Mom Prom in Canton in 2006 with her friends.

“We have Mom Proms from California to New York, and we’re so happy it started here in Michigan” added Crapps.

There are Mom Proms in more than 30 states with more than 50 Mom Proms scheduled in 2012 .

“It’s wonderful to hear the stories from the women, and why they want to raise money for their charities.  Everyone has a passion, and I’m just so happy that I can help them,” said Crapps.

7 Action News introduced viewers to Betsy’s gussied-up entourage last year.  One of the people who saw her on TV was Laurie Dixon of Trenton.

“I thought it was a fabulous idea. So I took it to my Trenton Rotary Board,” explained Dixon. “ It’s going to be a blast.”

“We’re going to have men in tuxes serving the women.  They’re doing all the work. So it’s a great idea,” she laughed.

Mom Prom goers can expect a DJ, karaoke, and sometimes a dinner out before the dance.

There’s also a tackiest dress contest, a game to crown the new Mom Prom a queen, and sometimes they’ll applaud the oldest dress in the bunch.

Dancing the night away is fun.  However, many participants are even more inspired by the fact that this hilarious night is also for a good cause.  Read more HERE
