LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is expected to conclude a three-day trip to Ohio today, the latest in a series of out-of-state political activities as he considers run for president.
Garcetti plans to attend a Democratic get-out-the-vote rally in Cincinnati, where he will also participate in a round table discussion about local transit initiatives, and speak at a fundraiser for the Ohio Democratic Party.
Garcetti attended events in Youngstown and Cleveland on Thursday and Friday, which included an address at the Cleveland City Club's “Forum” at midday Friday. Garcetti adviser Yusef Robb said the mayor will be accompanied by Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley throughout the trip.
Garcetti has frequently traveled outside California and the country. The Los Angeles Times reported last September he had spent nearly one-third of his time out of state in the previous 12 months, heading to cities including Atlanta, Phoenix, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas and Berlin.
As he weighs running for president, Garcetti has continued to make trips to political battleground states this year, including Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
The cost of the trips has been an issue, as the Los Angeles Times filed a lawsuit in July against after the city refused to turn over records detailing taxpayer costs for security on out-of-state trips taken by Garcetti.
Garcetti's federal political action committee will reimburse the city for travel expenses incurred by the mayor's security detail on political trips, Robb told The Times.
