Woman's Blood Turns Blue After Using Toothache Gel

A Rhode Island woman suffering from a toothache ended up with something way worse after using a numbing medication.

The unnamed 25-year-old showed up at the emergency room experiencing weakness and shortness of breath and had a bluish tint to her skin.

The doctors who saw her reported that "she reported having used large amounts of topical benzocaine the night before for a toothache."

Now you wouldn't think that would be a bad thing...however when they drew her blood, it was noticeably blue in color.

The doctors say that the excessive amount of medicine had caused the oxygen levels in her red blood cells to drop dramatically, which caused her blood to turn blue.

She was treated with intravenous drugs and was later released.
