NORWALK (CNS) - A 24-year-old woman was killed in a four-vehicle crash on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Norwalk that left two men hospitalized this morning and prompted the closure of a stretch of the freeway for more than four hours.
The crash was reported just south of Rosecrans Avenue about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A preliminary investigation determined Alyssa Alexus Contreras of La Puente was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on the San Gabriel River Freeway when the vehicle struck the concrete center divider and came to rest in lanes of traffic and was initially struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Honda Accord, the CHP said.
Contreras' vehicle came to rest on its roof and was struck by a Chrysler PT Cruiser, the CHP said.
Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.
The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as Jose O. Estrada, 42, of Pico Rivera, was taken to a hospital with major injuries and the driver of the pickup truck, Jonathan J. Villalpando, 28, of Fontana, was hospitalized with minor injuries, the CHP said. The driver of the Chrysler, Milton Max Marquardt, 46, of Ontario, was not injured.
No arrests were reported.
All southbound lanes near Rosecrans Avenue were closed about 4:05 a.m., triggering a SigAlert. Two lanes were reopened about two hours afterward, and all lanes were reopened about 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
