ALTADENA (CNS) - A 32-year-old man is jailed today, suspected of fatally stabbing his mother and a man at the home in Altadena he lived in.
Robert Cotton was booked on two counts of murder, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy Tracy Koerner said. He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail and scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Pasadena Superior Court, according to jail records.
Deputies from the Altadena Sheriff's Station responded to the 3100 block of North Marengo Avenue about 2:45 p.m. Monday regarding a possible kidnapping in progress, Koerner said.
When deputies arrived, they found a dead man in the driveway who had been stabbed several times. They checked the inside of the location and found a dead woman inside the home, Koerner said.
During the investigation, detectives learned that the woman was conducting a Zoom call with a colleague, when the attack on the man occurred. The Zoom caller witnessed the attack on both victims the male and called 911 to report the crime, Koerner said.
Investigators learned a vehicle was missing from the residence. During the investigation, Cotton returned to the home driving one of the victim's vehicles and identified himself as a resident of the home, Koerner said.
The vehicle was a Lexus SUV, sheriff's Lt. Barry Hall told the Los Angeles Times.
Both victims were in their 60s.
The victims were brother and sister, Fox11 reported.
The victims' names were withheld pending family notifications.
A motive for the stabbings was unknown.
