STANTON (CNS) - One man was in custody today and a woman was hospitalized with a gunshot wound after a vehicle pursuit that began in Stanton.

Deputies responded at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday to a shots-fired call at Starr Street and Beach Boulevard, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun said.

Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle from where they believed the shots came, and the suspect fled after deputies tried to detain the vehicle, Braun said. The pursuit ended at Katella Avenue and Los Alamitos Boulevard in Los Alamitos and a male suspect was taken into custody.

Deputies discovered an adult female victim in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity. She was taken to a hospital in fair condition, Braun said.

It was not known if the male suspect was the shooter.

“We do believe that he is involved in some way,” Braun said.

No further details were immediately available.
