Holiday Bowl Cancelled Hours Before Kickoff

Another college bowl game has been cancelled due to COVID-19... this time just hours before kickoff.

The Holiday Bowl between UCLA and NC State was canceled on Tuesday after UCLA was forced to pull out due to COVID-19 concerns. The game was originally set to kick off Tuesday night from Petco Park in San Diego.

"We are extremely grateful to the Holiday Bowl, students, fans, sponsors and the people of San Diego for their support this week," UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond said. "We are deeply disappointed for our young men in the football program that worked extremely hard for this opportunity. My heart goes out to them. The health and safety of our students will always be our North Star."

But NC State head coach Dave Doeren wasn't happy about the news, telling reporters he "felt lied to" and that UCLA "didn't tell anybody on our side" about any potential COVID issues.

The Holiday Bowl is the fifth bowl game to be cancelled this month due to the pandemic.
