The American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage - and it has gotten worse with the Omicron surge.
Officials with the American Red Cross say that approximately 25% of the Red Cross blood supply comes from high school students. Since the pandemic began that number has dropped immensely. It dropped 62%.
Luis Ramirez, district manager for the American Red Cross Biomedical Services discussed the shortage:
"Nationally, we like to be at a five-day supply, and currently, we are at a one-day supply, and that is what has put us in critical need,"
With the shortage of blood, doctors have been making difficult decisions for some of their patients.
All blood type donors are needed - ARC has been rationing deliveries of Type O and A blood.
Children's Hospital Los Angeles will be at the Los Angeles Kings' game on Thursday, January 13th - if you donate blood, you will receive two tickets to that game and a game of the future.
