BURBANK (CNS) - A man who was hit and killed today by a Metrolink train in Burbank ``intentionally positioned himself across the train tracks,'' police said.
The death was reported about 6 a.m. in an area behind the Burbank Animal Shelter in the 1100 block of North Victory Place, said Burbank police Sgt. Brent Fekety.
``When the officers arrived, they located a person lying on the ground, adjacent to the tracks, with significant injuries,'' Fekety said in a statement.
The man, whose name was not known, died at the scene, Fekety said, adding that there are several homeless encampments in and around the area.
``Investigators spoke with the conductor of the Metrolink train, who had remained at the scene after the collision,'' Fekety said.
``After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, it was determined the decedent intentionally positioned himself across the train tracks as the train was approaching. The train, which was traveling southbound, was unable to stop and struck the decedent.''
No injuries were reported on the train. Anyone with information about the case was urged to call police at 818-238-3210.
